Thus begins our story with Jess at the helm trying to solve this mystery and find her brother。This story is told through alternating viewpoints of the inhabitants of this opulent apartment building。 Our protagonist is the proverbial “girl in the horror movie running TOWARDS the thing that goes bump in the night”… you’ve been warned。 I will say…。 I basically held my breath throughout this entire book bracing myself for something to happen…。 and then I found myself almost passing out from holding my breath so long because…。 almost nothing happens? I was left with a few unanswered questions but overall I found the story engrossing。 All that to say, I still really enjoyed the story and will always be a big Lucy Foley fan。 Worth the read in my opinion。 Best paired with… definitely not wine (if you’ve read this book, you know)… how about instead we enjoy with a French 75… a little too on the nose, non? 。。。more

First half was 4 stars。 It went downhill from there。 Preposterous ending。 Bizarre outcome。 Frankly low characters all around in almost all equivocation。 Liked all of her others better。 At least 100 pages too long。2。5 stars rounded up for the creepy factors of the first half。

Well, I guess I'm not the only one who liked this less than The Guest List。 On the positive side, I thought having someone in a foreign country investigating a disappearance was a great premise with lots of possibilities。 I liked the main character and I liked the idea of a sinister building。 On the less positive side, I'm not the biggest fan of books that keep you completely in the dark for almost the entire story。 I felt that a lot of the characters' investigations of what was going on in the Well, I guess I'm not the only one who liked this less than The Guest List。 On the positive side, I thought having someone in a foreign country investigating a disappearance was a great premise with lots of possibilities。 I liked the main character and I liked the idea of a sinister building。 On the less positive side, I'm not the biggest fan of books that keep you completely in the dark for almost the entire story。 I felt that a lot of the characters' investigations of what was going on in the building revolved around flimsy coincidences。 The main character keeps stumbling on essential clues, like the time she opens a dictionary and an important clue falls out。 Or the way she's able to pick the lock to a door with her earring。 Is that even possible? (I can get a cheap push-and-turn bedroom door lock open with a bobby pin but this was a front door。) Another character manages to guess the computer password of someone she barely even knows。 I will be doing a spoiler discussion post very soon so watch this space for the link and let's talk about this book!Read more of my reviews on JenRyland。com! I loved this one - worth the preorder! Foley nailed the tightrope of saving twists without frustrating the reader。 And who doesn’t want a nasty thriller set in beautiful Paris?

More like 2。5 stars。I liked this more than The Guest List, which I couldn't get into and did not finish。 This was a quick read, despite seemingly nothing really happening to the last quarter。 I quite liked the last quarter, there was a plot twist that I felt was well executed and I did not see coming。 I didn't really connect with any of the POVs, making it harder to get invested in the storyline。 I also feel there could have been a lot more done with the setting, what was included about Paris ju More like 2。5 stars。I liked this more than The Guest List, which I couldn't get into and did not finish。 This was a quick read, despite seemingly nothing really happening to the last quarter。 I quite liked the last quarter, there was a plot twist that I felt was well executed and I did not see coming。 I didn't really connect with any of the POVs, making it harder to get invested in the storyline。 I also feel there could have been a lot more done with the setting, what was included about Paris just seemed pretty contrived。 Overall The Paris Apartment wasn't a particularly memorable read for me。 I had some issues with it, y but did not have strong feelings of dislike。 It was quite the average read。 。。。more

fun fast read。 liked it better than the guest list, and liked that the main character wasn’t so ditsy, which happens a lot in these types of mysteries。 didn’t see some of the twists coming。 loved the setting naturally as well。

pretty solid mystery with a good creepy jump-off and one great twist, not a traditional whodunnit, most of it built out of unreliable narrators who only tell you stuff when it's relevant to move the plot along, learned some French words and phrases, get what she was trying to do with the yellow vest protests thematically but felt tacked on。 pretty solid mystery with a good creepy jump-off and one great twist, not a traditional whodunnit, most of it built out of unreliable narrators who only tell you stuff when it's relevant to move the plot along, learned some French words and phrases, get what she was trying to do with the yellow vest protests thematically but felt tacked on。 。。。more

This is by the same author of “The Guest List” so I had high hopes for this book。 Definitely not as good。 I felt like the story dragged until the big twist reveal。 Of course I wanted to know what the heck happened to Ben。 But then when I found out it was very…meh。

I really wanted to like this book as I have liked all the other Lucy Foley books but this one just didn’t hit the mark。 The whole first half of the book I felt like I was rereading Lock Every Door by Riley Sager。 The last half just didn’t live up to anything。 I didn’t care about any of the characters。 The only reason I gave it 2 stars was for the actors reading it。 They gave a great audio performance。

Beautifully written with great atmosphere and well developed characters。 This book bought tears to my eyes。

Fun, fast, dark, tangentially French。

Lucy Foley returns with another great crime thriller, this time set in an old Paris Apartment, which in itself felt like a fabulous supporting character。 A locked room mystery, with unlikeable and unreliable narrators who each have their own POV per chapter (which I love and is classic Foley!)。 This was a thriller that kept me gripped with a plot twist half way through that I never saw coming and enough twists and turns to the end to keep me intrigued。 Definitely a read for fans of The Guest Lis Lucy Foley returns with another great crime thriller, this time set in an old Paris Apartment, which in itself felt like a fabulous supporting character。 A locked room mystery, with unlikeable and unreliable narrators who each have their own POV per chapter (which I love and is classic Foley!)。 This was a thriller that kept me gripped with a plot twist half way through that I never saw coming and enough twists and turns to the end to keep me intrigued。 Definitely a read for fans of The Guest List, and I’d say this one edges it a little for me。 Another brilliant thriller page turner from one of my auto buy authors! *** thanks to NetGalley for my copy of this books in return for an honest review *** 。。。more

content, Murder, Trafficking, Death, Homophobia, SuicideBook in One SentenceThe Paris Apartment by Lucy Foley, narrates the ordeal of Jess, while she tries to save her brother from danger, and in doing so, she uncovers deep, dark truths about the residents of the complex。IntroductionJess had a hard life, and she needed a break。 Her half-brother, Ben, is there in Paris, and she decides to crash at his apartment for some time until she finds her footing again。 While Ben is not particularly enthusiastic about welcoming Jess, he does not object。 But, before Jess can even make it to his place, Ben goes missing。 At first, Jess thinks that Ben is just being careless。 However, certain evidence points otherwise。 Coupled with the neighbours’ behaviour, Jess becomes suspicious and promises to uncover the truth and save her brother at any cost。ThemesFamilyThe importance of family is highlighted numerous times in the story。 We see how much extent a family can go in order to protect each other from any kind of danger。 We also see Jess doing anything and everything in order to save her half-brother, Ben。 Nick is especially open about the importance of family and blood。 In fact, in the end, we see how Nick’s father, Jacques, and his brother, Antoine, detest Mimi and do not consider her as a family member because of being adopted。Mental HealthThe novel is dark and dissects the psychology of the characters by giving them respective POVs。 We get to see the different traumas and inclinations of each character and how that shaped their personalities。 For instance, Mimi’s stalkerish tendencies find a new low when she barges into Ben’s room without his knowledge, her romanticising Ben and his actions, and her possessiveness over Ben while he never gave him much of a sign that those romantic feelings are well-reciprocated。Nick’s destructive behaviour manifests in the form of physical exertion and exercise。 He is too much involved in self-help, to the point that it has become almost self-destructive。 His minimal apartment décor also shows how detached he is, from his family。 And how, he just wants to get away from them。Antoine is an alcoholic with anger issues。 He is possessive regarding his wife and lets his envy and anger cloud his judgement。 We see that when he becomes suspicious of Dominique having an affair with Ben, when in reality, it was with Camille, Mimi’s roommate。 Antoine’s anger manifests in many forms — from his violent actions towards Dominique, him blackmailing his step-mother, Sophie, and his constant detest towards his adoptive sister, Mimi, for not being a “true” part of the Mueller family。ExploitationThis is an underlying theme of The Paris Apartment。 The crux of the novel and everything that goes on in the story lies in exploitation。 Jacques’ business of exploiting helpless, young women, who came to France with hopes for a better life but ended up falling victims to a grand scheme of sexual exploitation。 Ben, a freelance journalist, came to know about it and its connection with Nick’s family。 He ebbs his way into the family by using his charm in order to get deeper into the matter and uncover it along the way。 However, after his cover was blown, he was beaten and kidnapped by the family, which led to Jess trying to rescue her brother。The EndingThe ending signifies how everything in life is not black and white。 Yes, we’d like to see criminals behind bars。 But, sometimes, people take extreme measures in order to protect their loved ones from harm, even if it means inflicting harm on other people。 Jess saw the truth in this, and, after rescuing Ben (and having very limited options to bargain for safety), strikes a deal to keep her mouth shut and keep the Mueller family away from harm。 She, however, does right by the young, helpless, foreign women, by exposing the exploitation scheme with the help of Ben。Significance of the TitleThe Paris Apartment by Lucy Foley discovers the hidden secrets of living in the complex。 As the story goes on, we uncover the dark pasts of the residents and how they are connected to the disappearance of Ben。Final ThoughtsThe Paris Apartment by Lucy Foley is a psychological thriller that delves into the psyches of the characters with the help of individual POVs。 The characters are very well-rounded and beautifully written。 All of Foley’s books have an eerie atmosphere that is hard to emulate on paper。 However, Foley beautifully carves it in the story。 Overall, The Paris Apartment is a well-written and nicely thought out novel for people willing to give crime fiction a try。 。。。more

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 Lucy Foley, you've done it again。 I skeptical near the beginning, but this slow-burn thriller had my mind blown within the last few pages of the book; trust me this one is worth holding out for。 When Jess's brother goes missing and can't be heard from, seemingly out of nowhere, she takes it as her duty to find him and figure out what's going on -- but what she does end up stumbling into isn't what she could have ever imagined, opening up doors with increasingly dangerous outcomes。 - A super-secr Lucy Foley, you've done it again。 I skeptical near the beginning, but this slow-burn thriller had my mind blown within the last few pages of the book; trust me this one is worth holding out for。 When Jess's brother goes missing and can't be heard from, seemingly out of nowhere, she takes it as her duty to find him and figure out what's going on -- but what she does end up stumbling into isn't what she could have ever imagined, opening up doors with increasingly dangerous outcomes。 - A super-secret sex ring for the rich? - Several scandalous affairs? - A fraudulent company?- Too many fake names? - A bloody Murder?Yep, you guessed it! Those are all on Jess's route to finding her brother -- dead or alive。 I'm giving Foley's latest book a 4/5 out of five stars, because I really was feeling upset about the slow-burn nature to this thrillers, but after some time, I (through the eyes and ears of Jess) began to unwind the web of lies that was spun -- revealing the hideous nature of the Meunier family。 。。。more

This is the second Lucy Foley book I've chosen not to finish for lack of interest and writing style and I don't think I'll make another attempt at her books。 Some people seem to love them but I just don't click with them。 I made it about 25% in and there were so many POVs that it was just kind of all over the place for me。 I don't really struggle with multiple POVs but it took too long to get to who they were and how they were relevant that it took away all suspense and just kind of dragged。 I j This is the second Lucy Foley book I've chosen not to finish for lack of interest and writing style and I don't think I'll make another attempt at her books。 Some people seem to love them but I just don't click with them。 I made it about 25% in and there were so many POVs that it was just kind of all over the place for me。 I don't really struggle with multiple POVs but it took too long to get to who they were and how they were relevant that it took away all suspense and just kind of dragged。 I just really didn't care what happened and how it ended and I don't think I would have been happy with it, so not point in pushing through on this one。 。。。more
